Leonard Cohen is, undoubtedly, the man. His songs are like soundtracks for lonely motel rooms (it's a good thing!)...they're magically sombre.
Remember when they played Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" on the season one finale of The OC while Seth was sailing away on his boat? Ugh, so heartbreaking.
After seeing Leonard Cohen's performance below, I'm pretty bummed I didn't get a chance to see him when he was in the Bay Area. If he ever decides to come back, I'll be there...pumping my fist for the old man.

Ha-ha funny
I just want to thank Kristen Wigg for keeping SNL funny when Tina Fey isn't doing her Sarah Palin impersonation.

iPhone happiness and rediscovering "California's Gold"
After that sad, sad Friday where I wasn't able to get an iPhone, I didn't give up. Uyen and Andrew were in town this past weekend from New York for a wedding. Unfortunately, on Sunday, Uyen drank a little too much the night before and spent the day getting to know my toilet. I wanted to give them a chance to sleep at my place, so I grabbed Patrick and made him go to the Apple store just to check out the line. It was the shortest I'd seen it (still about 50 poeople) so I had to jump right in. After about 45 minutes I was a proud owner of a black 16GB iPhone. It hasn't left my side since; I'm totally in love.
The iPhone has since taken the friendship between me and Tristan to a new level (we've texted each other on our phones!). Incidentally, one of those texts was about "California's Gold," a show I used to watch as a young man. It was hosted and produced by Huell Howser and often showed him on a train full of dining senior citizens or standing on a dry lake bed somewhere in the California desert. Thanks to Tristan, now I know that there are podcasts that I can download and watch!! There's a "spinoff" called "California's Gold Visiting" where Huell goes to different countries. I've downloaded the Russian one and will watch it soon. Check it out!

Ceci n'est pas Michael Kors
There's something very conceptual and existential about this picture, like what Duchamp and Nietzsche would sell to Us Weekly if they were BFFs and became paparazzi, or like being stoned out of your mind. Or maybe it totally freaks me out that he's not as orange as he usually is on Project Runway.

Project Runway is almost here, or Where is Andrae?
It feels like a few years since Project Runway's season finale aired. I've waited and waited for the new season to start, and guess what? I'm still waiting! What the hell??! Another month? That shouldn't be right.
Since I don't have cable and rely on Audrey for all my Bravo needs, I haven't really had a chance to watch Tim Gunn's show. In my heart of hearts, though, I know even that wouldn't quench my thirst for PR.
For fans of Season 2 (the best!), here's a gem I found on YouTube:

I officially love Victoria Beckham
It's not a secret that I'm a fan of reality shows; Project Runway, Top Chef, and now, the Beckhams (I don't know what it's called). Victoria Beckham is kind of sweet and charming. I love that she has to put on her "miserable face" to take the paparazzi head-on. She refuses to smile or look like she's having a good time in public. It's so absurd that it's perfect for reality TV.

Fun Friday
There are surprisingly a lot of people at the gym on Friday night. I'm starting to worry about my Bay-to-Breakers run. It's a month away and there's no way I think I can run a 12k (7.something miles) course all the way through. Well, actually, I ran almost 5 miles today and wasn't too tired afterward. Runners have 3 1/2 hours to cross the finish line; after that they take it down and you'd be running aimlessly around the city.
Right now I'm at Helena's waiting for Morrissey to come on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Actually, she's waiting for him to come on and I'm looking up pictures of Carrot Top and his waxy-lookin' skin.

Body snatchin' fungi
I learned on the BBC series Planet Earth last night that there are fungi in the rain forest that lodge themselves inside of insects, making them go crazy. Infected ants, for example, are exiled by their colony. Poor bastards.
Also, chimps are fucking scary.

Lost Highway, Part. I
After reading David Foster Wallace's essay on David Lynch, I was inspired to go out and buy everything Lynch on DVD. Luckily, I only got was Eraserhead before realizing I can just rent them since I don't really watch my DVDs after the initial viewing.
Last night Ross and Nicole were having dinner at Herbivore (see "Things I hate" in sidebar) so we planned to meet at the local coffeeshop after they were done. That didn't really pan out, but they did meet me at the video store where I got Lost Highway. Ross left me with a cryptic message: "He gets more pussy than a toilet seat."
I went over to Corky's to watch the DVD after parting ways with Ross and Nicole. It's been about a decade since I saw it on the big screen, so I really don't remember much about the movie except that it thoroughly confused me. About 10 minutes into the movie, Corky and I were completely freaked out. I don't remember it being this scary. Nothing is more ball-shriveling than seeing Robert Blake's face superimposed on Patricia Arquette's body while in bed with Bill Pullman. Corky screamed a few times and freaked me out even more.
We ended up stopping the movie about half way through because we were both tired (I was secretly afraid that I might get spooked on the way home). We'll have to finish it during daylight hours.
Also, we both agree that Lynch's Bob character from Twin Peaks reminds us of our friend Eugene. See below.
Here are a couple shots of Bob lurking at the foot of the bed:
Here are pictures of Eugene lurking behind various plant life:

The Super Bowl is hella gay
I found this article about letters people sent the FCC about the recent Super Bowl. They got 150 letters from citizens who were troubled by what they saw (which I thought was surprisingly low number since people write to complain about everything).
The letters seemed to mostly focus on Prince's halftime performance and the Snickers ad where the mechanics make out. The article links to The Smoking Gun post where they've compiled some of the best letters. My favorite is one where a concerned father claims that Prince is a homosexual (he's twice-married...to women, and has dated a Bangle and Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks...neither of whom are men). The concerned father says that his boy wanted to be a quarterback, but because of Prince's performance his son will now be gay. Go read it at The Smoking Gun. Also check out page 9, where the person goes way in-depth about the Snickers guys making out.

Entertainment news
I found out recently that The Jesus and Mary Chain, one of my favorite bands, will be reuniting(!!) and playing Coachella(!!!!) this year. I've never seen them live, I can't wait. The last (and only) time I've been to Coachella was the first year in 1999. I went with Rubi and Jason and had my first hit of E. Needless to say, it was an amazing experience. Spiritualized played an amazing set (too bad you weren't there, Helena). The main attraction for me that year was Morrissey, of course, but the whole experience was unforgettable. I plan on having a better time this year with my main bitches.
Other noteworthy appearances on the list for Friday (the day I plan on going) are: Björk, Jarvis Cocker and Sonic Youth.
Also, Reno 911! is now a movie. I hope it's not as disappointing as the Strangers With Candy movie.
